Morning Reflection from our Head Girl – Fashion Revolution Week

Good Morning Everyone,

We hope everyone is keeping safe and well, during this challenging time for all of us.

This week marks Fashion Revolution Week nationwide. At this time, collective action is key. We are all missing our loved ones and friends. We all need people. We are all vulnerable. It is that shared humanity that makes this years Fashion Revolution all the more impactful. After all, the people behind our supply chains deserve to live with dignity and respect. They deserve basic human rights.

Fast fashion is a topic that is only now gaining attention. However, it is a global issue that has been years in the making. It is the perfect recipe of capitalist greed and the seemingly endless demand of consumers. However an industry that profits so much, also comes at the expense of many. At its core it’s model is unsustainable, unjust and unethical. It is a rapacious system that must end.

But the dream of a better industry is in our grasp. A system that pays its workers and develops is in harmony with nature, is something we must achieve. The way in which we get there is through action. Through taking individual steps like buying quality over quantity, but also making changes at a societal level and by embarking on a united journey together, to reach a better tomorrow.

Jeffrey D. Sachs once declared “ after the final no there comes a yes and on that yes the future world depends.” For in the end there is no justice, there is just us.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Kindest regards,

Ellen McKimm
