Fresher’s Week and Halloween

What a great week to finish our first term for this Academic Year.  The 6th Year Leadership Team had stayed behind after school on the Friday to decorate the school in preparation for Halloween.  They were also very busy organising the many varied events that would be celebrated during Fresher's Week.

On Monday there was a very competitive Basketball match in the Gym, with very impressive Michael Jordanesque tricks to be enjoyed by staff and students alike.  Thanks to all the staff and students who participated in the match.

Tuesday students were invited to view the many Sport's related stalls and participate in different sporting activities in the Gymn.

Wednesday all 1st Years were invited to an art workshop in the Art Room, where they could make Vampire Lollipops, with prizes for the most creative ones.

Thursday, the various clubs and societies in the school were busy preparing their stalls to sign up new members.  This was followed by a series of talks from each club/society outlining what they did and giving general information about same.  The talks were very well attended and we're looking forward to welcoming new members to these.  Thursday's lunchtime activities finished with a lovely idea from the 6th Year Prefects to organise a mini party for the 1st Years to celebrate their first term in Secondary School.  This also coincided with all students being invited to wear Crazy Socks for the day.

Friday's Lunchtime Concert was the first this year.  Performers were Mollie Lawlor, 2nd Year who sang Hallelujah, accompanied by Tanya Massey on piano, Lucy Alvarez O'Neill, 5th Year played Downton Abbey on Piano.  Jenny Neena, 5th Year sang “Can't help falling in love” by Elvis Presley, Aisling Gregg 6th Year performed Can Weile Weile Weile, Mollie Larkin played “Your Song” by Elton John and to conclude the concert Claire Gregg 2nd Year played “Not while I'm around” from Sweeney Todd.  The concert was followed by our Halloween Fashion Show, with the special appearance of the best Halloween costumes which included the Weasley Twins from Harry Potter and the Snapchat girls dressed up as Rainbow faces. First prize went to Ferrero Rochero.

During the week there was also a Slime Workshop in the Science Lab run by Ms. Kerr and the 5th Years.  The Library ran Halloween Competitions from Monday to Thursday, “Scary Halloween Story” competition, “Spooky Crossword” on Monday, “Harry Potter Wizard Challenge” and “Lost for Words” on Tuesday.  Wednesday's competition was “Scrambled Halloween” and Thursday was “Halloween Maze”.

Thanks to everyone who organised or took part in all the activities.
