End Of An Era/New Beginnings

Loreto Hall closed its doors at the end of October after 114 years of service to our past pupils, overseen by the multitude of Loreto Nuns who lived and worked there.

In 1908 the National University of Ireland was established and University College, Earlsfort Terrace was delighted to welcome women students within its portals. Until 1911, when Loreto Hall, 77 St. Stephen’s Green, opened, university students stayed in the Green and attended lectures in Earlsfort Terrace. The purchase of Loreto Hall allowed the undergraduates to stay in the Hall while they studied. Since then it has run a very successful Commercial Course and has been a home for our Loreto Community. On Sunday 17th October Fr Kevin celebrated a Mass in University Church, with a sumptuous lunch in The Shelbourne prior to the departure of the remaining Nuns to different locations around Ireland.

We would like to wish all the Nuns our best wishes in their new communities and in particular Sr. Jane who has been an integral part of school life in the Junior School and Senior School over the last 23 years.
We will miss you!
