SciFest at School – Friday 10th October:

All Transition Year students took part in SciFest at School last Friday, 10th October. SciFest is a series of one day science fairs for second-level students hosted locally in schools and regionally in the Institutes of Technology. SciFest aims to encourage a love of science, technology and maths through active, collaborative, enquiry-based learning. This year was the third year of SciFest at School in Loreto, where it has become an integral part of the transition year science course. All students in the year group worked as individuals or in small groups to conduct a scientific investigation of their choice.

The girls had been working hard all term conducting scientific research, gathering and analysing data and displaying their findings in a report book and on a poster. The competition took place in the Assembly Hall, which was filled with all their very impressive work for the day on Friday. Seven external judges came in to speak with the girls and to make the very difficult decisions on the category prize winners and overall best project. They were extremely impressed with the work that had been done and how well all the students communicated with them.

Huge congratulations to all the girls who won prizes in their categories and especially to Jessica Commins who won Overall Best Project for her study “When I grow up… A study into whether personality or environmental factors affect career choice
