Hockey
has been played in the Green since the 1920’s and for many years
training took place in Dartmouth Square. In recent years the practices
have been organised in various Hockey grounds around the city. As this
required the girls to travel after school to reach the grounds, the
Astroturf pitch has been of great benefit, as the girls no longer have
to leave the school except for matches.
Since
the installation of the pitch there has been a great increase in the
numbers playing Hockey, with an average of 100 girls now on teams.
Similarly to Basketball, the girls are entered in the Loreto and
Leinster Leagues with matches for the former played on Saturdays while
Leinster matches are mid-week. Pupils are expected to train once a
week, sometimes more often.
