Social Justice Group
The Mary Ward Social Justice Group is central to life at Loreto. A new Chairperson and Secretary are selected each September and are highly prestigious and much coveted roles.
The Social Justice Group is open to all students in Senior Cycle, it raises awareness of the difficulties, financial and emotional, facing so many people in the Dublin City area. As well as general fundraising the Social Justice Group students and the teacher volunteers arrange a ‘Soup Run’ each Friday afternoon after school. Two groups head out onto the streets, one to go north of the Liffey and the other south. They distribute sandwiches, which are made in school on Friday at lunchtime, biscuits, a hot drink and some cigarettes to the many homeless they encounter on their way.
The contact for the Social Justice Group is the school Chaplain, Ms. Caitríona Fitzpatrick.
