On the 25th of October the October House Event took place. The event was a Zumbathon for Breast Cancer Awareness and it was a great success. 100 Loreto girls gathered in the sports hall and danced amongst the pink balloons.
Not only did everyone have fun and get some exercise, the event also raised money for Breast Cancer Awareness. It was lovely to see girls from different years coming together dancing and enjoying themselves for a great cause.
Prizes were given out to the best dancers and 50 house points were given to the Macaws for the most participants. This event was a fantastic way to encourage school spirit and also supported a great cause.

On Thursday 29th September the first House Event of the year took place at lunch time.
Each class had representatives ready in their House colours to participate in a very competitive Dodge ball Tournament.
There was great spirit and lots of dodging and jumping to avoid being hit by a ball.
There was a tie in the end between the Gazelles and the Tamarins and both Houses won 50 points. The Bees were second gaining 30 points and the Macaws received 20 House points for participation.
Well done to the Bees and Tamarins who both picked up 20 bonus points for superb house spirit!!
Total House Points: Bees: 165 Gazelles: 230 ` Macaws: 155 Tamarins: 150
Gazelles are in the lead!!!

On Monday, 26th September Loreto College had a surprise visit from two very special 2016 Olympians. Claire Lambe (Class of 2008) and Orla Comerford (Class of 2016) gave very generously of their time to come and speak to us about their Olympic experiences.
Claire was part of the Irish Rowing Team at the Olympics, racing in the women’s lightweight double sculls category. The games were a culmination of years of training and perseverance by Claire. Having been disappointed in her attempt to qualify for the 2012 Olympics, her joy and pride at her participation this year was clear for all to see. Claire and her partner, Sinead Jennings, came 6th in the final of the women’s lightweight double sculls.
Orla was a member of the Irish Paralympics Team, running in the 100m sprint. Orla completed her Leaving Certificate here in the school in June, all the while training for the Paralympics. Her determination and positive outlook are inspirational and we all listened with admiration and pride as she spoke of her Olympic experience. Orla came 8th in the final of the women’s 100m sprint in Rio this year.
There are not many schools that can boast of having an Olympian as a student/past student but here at Loreto we are fortunate to have two. Two Loreto girls who are proud of their school and their achievements and are kind enough to share their Olympic stories with today’s students.
Congratulations and thank you to Claire and Orla from the Staff and Pupils of Loreto College.

On Wednesday 24th August and Thursday 25th August the First Years enjoyed two mornings of fun sports activities.
The girls participated in gymnastics, badminton, basketball, rounders, unihoc, dodgeball, soccer and fun games.
The newly appointed 6th year leadership team of Grace, Doireann and Cliodhna got involved also and helped the girls to settle into their new classes. They took great action shots and even managed to get the girls into the shape of their class letter!! The last activity was a very competitive Inter House Dodge ball tournament which was won by the Tamarins!
Thanks to the PE and Sports Department Staff for an action packed start to the new year.
