The Kenya Immersion Experience began at Loreto St. Stephen’s Green in October 2008 when the first group of 16 students and four teachers travelled to Nairobi. Since then it has become an annual event and a vitally important two weeks in the school calendar.
The participants are chosen following a rigorous interview process in Transition Year. They spend a week working with young children who travel to school from one of the poorest areas of Nairobiand the second week at Nyumbani a purpose built village some three hours upcountry, where children, orphaned by AIDs, are given the chance of food, shelter, medical care and a good education.
