First Year Book Club

First Year Book Club

The first meeting of the First Year Book Club took place on Wednesday 24th September during lunchtime.  The girls were very enthusiastic about recommending books and the following three books were chosen for reading this month.

  • Faraway Home by Marilyn Taylor
  • The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness
  • Liar and Spy by Rebecca Stead

House points were awarded to Class 1M and 1B for having the most representatives at the meeting.

Even if you were unable to attend this meeting please read one or all of the books and come along to the next one.  The date of the next meeting will be announced shortly.

Mass to celebrate the Opening of the Academic Year 2015-2016

Mass to celebrate the Opening of the Academic Year 2015-2016

The annual Mass to celebrate the beginning of the academic year was held in St. Teresa’s Church, Clarendon Street, on Monday 21st September. It was the first time in this school year that the whole school community was together as a group.  The theme of this year's Mass was "With each sunrise we are given a new beginning".  Fr. Jim who celebrated the Mass wished all our year groups and staff the best of luck in all our endeavours for the coming year.

This lovely occasion would not have been possible without the brilliant preparation by the R.E. and Music Departments and we would like to extend our sincerest thanks for all their hard work.  Student involvement in the Mass was, as always to the fore, with lovely hymns from our choirs, Ceiliúr and Katy Quinn, Readings and Prayer of the Faithful, as well as our new Ministers of the Eucharist.

It was lovely to see so many parents at the Mass too.  Míle buíochas

Thank You Ms. Travers!

The six girls who travelled to Lourdes last week would like to thank Ms. Travers for accompanying them on a very enjoyable week.  It was an experience they will never forget!

Ministers of the Eucharist

There is a list of names of 6th Years, who will be Ministers of the Eucharist, on the Chaplain's noticeboard.  If you were unable to submit an application form but would still like to be a minister, please let Ms. Fitzpatrick know as soon as possible.  Please check your school e-mail for notices about meeting times.  Thank you, Caitriona.

Well Done!

Congratulations to past pupil Claire Lambe, who qualified to compete in the Rio Olympics over the weekend.  She will compete in the Rowing Event and we are all very proud!!

Transition Year P.E. Adventure Trip

Transition Year P.E. Adventure Trip

On Monday 31st of August all Transition Year students travelled to Co. Mayo. 4B and 4G travelled  to Achill Adventure Centre and 4M and 4T went to Uisce Adventure Centre.

Activities such as abseiling, archery, coasteering, hill walking, kayaking, pier jumping, rock climbing and surfing were organised for us to take part in. There were also team bonding games such as the human knot and the spider web which we found challenging and great fun!!  We tried to surf the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. However this proved to be easier said than done.  The instructors kept the atmosphere alive with plenty of jokes and laughter throughout the three days.

This was a lovely start to the year and we would like to thank the following teachers for accompanying us and giving up their free time -  Ms. Prendergast, Ms. Ryan, Ms. Egan , Mr. Bain and Magda.

A special thank you to Ms. Crinion for organising the two trips. Both trips were a great success.

Alex Byrne 4G and Lauren Devitt 4T.
