Rachel Murray-Watson received an Award from the Institute of Biology of Ireland for top marks in Leaving Cert Biology 2014.  Rachel received her Award from Dr Kay Nolan of the Institute of Biology of Ireland at a reception held in the Botanic Gardens on the 21 November 2014.  Ms Claudine Prendergast, Rachel's Biology teacher was also presented with an Award for  Excellence  in the teaching of Biology at Leaving Certificate.

The Institute of Biology in Ireland is a professional organisation of Biologists in Ireland.  Apart from representing the interests of professional biologists, it is also responsible for disseminating information and encouraging interests in Biological disciplines.  Dr Nolan praised Rachel's achievement and stressed how important the Biological sciences are in today's world.  She also emphasised how important a knowledge of biology is for all students even if they do not pursue it at third level.

It was a very pleasant evening enjoyed by Rachel, Ms Prendergast and Rachel's mother and grandparents who were rightly very proud of her.  34,000 students sat L.C Biology so to achieve top marks was a wonderful achievement and a tribute to Rachel's hard work and intelligence.  Rachel is currently studying Biology at Edinburgh University.
