TCD: Congratulations to Katie Bolger, Aoife Gregg and Doireann O’Brien who received Entrance Exhibition Awards from Trinity College. Entrance Exhibitions are awarded to Junior Freshmen (first year) new entrants provided that sufficient merit is shown in public examination results. Each exhibition is in the form of a book prize. Well done to Katie, Aoife and Doireann and their teachers.
UCD: The recipient of the UCD Entrance Scholar Award for 2014 is Roslyn Colgan. Roslyn is currently studying Biomedical Science in UCD. Entrance Scholar awards are presented to first year students who achieve 560 points or more in their Leaving Certificate. Congratulations to Roslyn and all of her teachers.
Rachel Murray-Watson received an Award from the Institute of Biology of Ireland for top marks in Leaving Cert Biology 2014. Rachel received her Award from Dr Kay Nolan of the Institute of Biology of Ireland at a reception held in the Botanic Gardens on the 21 November 2014. Ms Claudine Prendergast, Rachel's Biology teacher was also presented with an Award for Excellence in the teaching of Biology at Leaving Certificate.
The Institute of Biology in Ireland is a professional organisation of Biologists in Ireland. Apart from representing the interests of professional biologists, it is also responsible for disseminating information and encouraging interests in Biological disciplines. Dr Nolan praised Rachel's achievement and stressed how important the Biological sciences are in today's world. She also emphasised how important a knowledge of biology is for all students even if they do not pursue it at third level.
It was a very pleasant evening enjoyed by Rachel, Ms Prendergast and Rachel's mother and grandparents who were rightly very proud of her. 34,000 students sat L.C Biology so to achieve top marks was a wonderful achievement and a tribute to Rachel's hard work and intelligence. Rachel is currently studying Biology at Edinburgh University.

Geography Awareness Week took place last week 17th - 21st November. The theme this year was the Geography of Food. A giant 'Food Map' was displayed on the stairs and throughout the week the girls added the foods from the various countries across the world.
A table quiz was held on Thursday at lunchtime and each house was represented by a girl from each year. In the end the G's won taking a super 30 house points for the Gazelles.
We also held a photo competition and the Junior Winner was Anna Collier and the Senior Winner was Fiona Ennis. Well done to both of the girls.

Last week was Science Week and it was certainly packed with lots of fun activities and inquistive budding young scientists!
Activities included:
- Chemistry demonstration for some 1st and 2nd years by John Daly (accounts below will show just how much the students enjoyed this experience!)
- A trip to the zoo for a Genetics lecture for 6th years from 6B
- Two teams of 6th years competed at the annual Irish Science Teachers Association science quiz. Well done to those students involved - Zara Khan, Niamh McAdam, Ita McGennis, Niamh Kyne, Hayley Briody and Aoife Corcoran.
- A fun science workshop on Friday where the highlight was the huge flames that Ms Campbell lit in Ms Kerr's hands!
- There were daily puzzles which attracted great interest. Winners were Tamsin Carolan, Aoibheann Dillon-Kelly, Ruth McMonagle, Eleanor Cripwell and Maeve Given.
- The first year poster competition had a very high standard of entries. Winners, which were very difficult to select, were Meabh Egan, Meabh Fleming, Freya Daughton and Emily Plant. Their posters can be seen in the collage.
- And finally, there were many more fun activities throughout science classes during the week.

Well done to everyone who competed in the Loreto Swimming Gala in the National Aquatic Centre on 20 November. It was a great day and everyone swam very well.
Congratulations especially to the following finalists: Adrianne Ward in freestyle and relay; Ellen Vahey in freestyle and relay; Eva Kerley in breaststroke; Jessica Commins in butterfly; Ava O’Brien in relay and a final congrats to Miren Tellechea who took 2nd place in the butterfly final.
The Swimming Committee and team would like to thank Ms Crinion and Mr O’Riordan for supporting us on the day and for all their hard work.

On Saturday, 29 November the Senior Gaelic team will be playing against Donaghmore-Ashbourne GAA Club in memory of Elaine. The game will take place in Ashbourne at 2pm and there will be food afterwards. All are welcome to attend.

A meeting of the Book Club for 1st and 2nd Years took place today Wednesday 19th November and was very well attended.
The following three books were recommended and chosen by the girls to read before the next meeting in December.

After Tomorrow by Gillian Cross
The New Policeman by Kate Thompson
Please read at least one of these three books before the next meeting. If you missed the meeting today do read a book and come the next time.

Photograph taken on the recent parents association guided walk around the Hill of Tara. The walk was very entertaining and full of very interesting archaelogical and cultural stories about the Hill of Tara covering hundreds of years and including a wide range of Irish historical characters.

This Halloween the 1st Year students had great fun making scary vampire lollipops. Molly Fergus and Julia Purcell, the 5th Year Art Co-ordinators, organised the workshop. They showed the first years how to turn a lollipop into a Vampire with the help of some googly eyes scissors & glue!
