Sam Maguire visits Loreto College

Sam Maguire visits Loreto College

The Sam Maguire cup came to into the school on Monday, 7th October.  Dublin players, Dean Rock, Jack Mc Caffrey and Cormac Costello also came in to get pictures and sign autographs.  We would like to thank the Dublin footballers for taking time out of their busy schedule.  Dean and Jack both made their debut this year.  Dean’s father Barney and Jack’s father Noel both have all Ireland winning medals for Dublin.  Jack Mc Caffrey has been nominated for young player of the year.  Their visit has special relevance this year as Dean Rock is the brother of Shannon Rock in 5th year.  The entire school community enjoyed participating in the celebration.

Achill PE Trip for 4B and 4G

Achill PE Trip for 4B and 4G

On Monday September 2nd the 4B and 4G classes accompanied by Ms Crinion, Ms O’Connor and Ms Davies travelled to Achill for our 3 day adventure trip.

There was little rest after an almost 5 hour bus journey and our groups were immediately thrown into all sorts of activities, such as mountain boarding and coasteering, all of which were new to us. Over the 3 days all the groups went canoeing, mountain boarding, coasteering and surfing. These activities were always great fun and involved huge waves, jumping off high rocks, bog facials and a lot of jellyfish. At night there were lots of scary stories (courtesy of Molly and Orla), fun team building games and sing songs.

We had a great trip, everyone tried new things, made new friends and we even saved a sheep.  The instructors were excellent and helped us get the most out of our trip. This trip would not have been possible without Ms O’Connor, Ms Crinion and Ms Davies who gave up their free time to accompany us on the trip and we are all very grateful.

Bundoran PE Trip for 4M and 4T

Bundoran PE Trip for 4M and 4T

On Monday September 2nd the 4M and 4T classes accompanied by Ms.Bradbury, Ms. Cunningham and Ms. Vavasseur set out on our trip to Bundoran. We boarded the bus at 9:00am and arrived at the adventure centre 3 hours later. After a brief introduction to rules and schedules we were assigned our rooms and rushed to lunch as everyone was starved. Following lunch, cliff jumping was the first activity. The object of the activity was to jump off a diving board into the sea and swim back. Later that day we enjoyed our second activity which was nightline. It involved doing an obstacle course blindfolded guided by a rope.

A busy day followed, starting with an early breakfast and straight into an adventure challenge. Team building exercises and puzzles followed, finishing with another obstacle course. The next activity was surfing, challenging but very enjoyable. We all worked up an appetite for dinner. In the evening we did rock climbing and abseiling, scary but fun activities. The next morning we were set the challenge of constructing and using a raft.

Altogether it was a busy but enjoyable trip which gave us the opportunity to become friendly with a wide group of girls in our year. The trip was from the 2nd to the 4th September and it would not have been possible without Ms. Bradbury, Ms. Cunningham and Ms. Vavasseur who gave up their free time to come with us.

Postponement of Parents’ Association AGM

Apologies for any inconvenience to parents caused by the postponement of the Parents’ Association AGM.  Watch this space for the new date!
Its postponement meant that we also missed out on the opportunity to hear what I believe is a most entertaining talk on work–life balance from Dr Rhona Mahony.  I hope that Dr Mahony may fit us into her very hectic schedule at some time in the future.
