JPIC Group

JPIC stands for Justice, Peace and the Integrity of Creation. The JPIC group is made up of 5th and 6th year students interested in researching issues relating to these concepts in our world today. The aim of the group is to raise awareness of these topics among students, staff and the wider community.

A special aspect of this group is that it is run in connection with eh Loreto Schools Network, At the start of each school year a seminar is held where group co-ordinators and student representatives from all the Loreto schools in Ireland come together. These seminars raise the social consciousness of the participants, empowering students and teachers in their role as agents of social change.

Issues and Activities dealt with by JPIC members have included a focus on the Millennium Development Goals. Raising awareness of fairtrade products was achieved by chocolate tasting sessions and providing fairtrade refreshments at Parent-Teacher meetings and other school events.

The JPIC noticeboard reflects the current topic being focused on. (The group carried out a 'peer teaching' CSPE class on fairtrade). We also organised to Stand Up and Speak Out Against Poverty Campaign, which contributed to setting a new record for the Guinness Book of World Records.

The group meets at lunchtime; days and times are announced and displayed on noticeboard. New members from 5th and 6th years are always welcome.
